In our first test without pila, the Nubians routed the Thureos with around 90-80 men left. Thureos to see how it affects infantry engagements. So formation attack is really harmful when trying to beat cavalry, especially if the aim is to do so quickly.
They routed the Auxiliary Cav twice as fast and with half the losses(90 men left vs.
The first test was against Auxiliary Cavalry and as I expected Nubians outperformed the Thureos Spears. So in our tests we started by doing comparisons between Thureos Spears and Nubian Spearmen, as they are very similar in ability with Nubians being slightly weaker statistically. Non-formation attacking spearmen were actively trying to get all men to engage with the enemy cav, while the formation attackers hold their formation and don't actively close in with the enemy as individuals. I had a hunch by looking at how the unit engages that the issue was formation attack.
